So, after reading these great books...one is pictured above..but the other are:

We decided to write our own "Diary" of an animal. They turned out AMAZING. We also did cool animal masks to culminate the project. It was a blast.

READING: We read "On the Move" and discussed how people from different countries travel around. Our letter are V and W.

WRITING:
This Tuesday we celebrated with a PUBLISHING party for our "Diary of an animal" book. The kids did an AMAZING job. I can't believe how much they wrote. It's so cool. They are wrapping up this unit with ANIMAL masks. We started today designing mask for our books. Check them out in the hallway tomorrow.

***BIG news***
Lydia Griffin will be in our classroom tomorrow. She is the author of Beba and the Curious Creature Catchers and Prunes and Rupe. She is also my next door neighbor and we MIGHT just be related somewhere down the line.....ha!
She will be doing a BEBA workshop with our class from 8-11:30 and with 1st and 2nd graders from 12:15-2:30. We are so excited for this special opportunity and it's our last BIG writing project in Kindergarten.

***PRE-Kindergarten VISIT DAY***
Tuesday...we had the FUTURE kindergartners here from 8-11. It was so fun. YOUR kids did an amazing job being the BIG kids for the morning. I was so impressed and so proud of them. Give them a pat on the back.

***Next Tuesday is Pat Euart's last day as our PE teacher. He is going to be missed. We decided as a staff that we were dressing up as coaches for the day. If your child has a TEAM shirt of any kind, have them wear it on TUESDAY May 25th.

***NO chicks have hatched yet. We are bummed.***

May 10th - 14th



Griffin Gazette


This week we are busy little DUST bunnies. We have special visitors from Missoula Children's Theatre here all week. Auditions were held Monday morning in the gym from 8:30 - 10:30. It was very entertaining to watch. All kindergartners score the role of "Dust bunnies" in the play. We will be performing at the Driggs Kindergarten Building at 6pm sharp this Saturday, May 15th. Hope to see you there.

READING: WE are having a crazy week with pull-outs and practice, so reading is hit or miss. This week we read "The little engine that could". We talked about something that we had never done, but told ourselves we COULD do it and DID it. Our letter of the week is /Uu/ and check the FAMILY times that came home on Monday for more info.

WRITING: We are wrapping up our Realistic Fiction Unit this week. WE are peer editing and fancy-ing up today. We will be celebrating our Publishing party on Friday. More details to come.

MATH:

Science: Our eggs our set to hatch in 6 days. That is on Sunday. I will be in to check on them. Hopefully we will get some little peepers on Monday. We are soooooo excited.

More NEWS:
This Thursday is the PRE-Kindergarten Screening. I will be in the building, but not in our classroom. Mrs. O' Connell will be our sub. The kids know her well.
Tuesday the 18th the new Kindergartners will make a morning visit to our room. They will be here from 8-11am. We are looking forward to being the big kids.
Thursday, May 20th We have local Author: Lydia Griffin doing a guest Writer's workshop in our classroom.

TREES and such.


What a wonderful community full of amazing people...
Saturday we braved the SPRING weather to put 18 trees in the ground. It was a great event. We are so excited about our new trees. Check out our donor HERE!
A big THANK you to all who showed up to help and show support. We couldn't of done it without you.

READING: This week we are reading Messenger, Messenger and discussing what types of transportation people use to do their jobs. A fire truck will be here on Friday for us to view. We will also be learning what to do in case of AN EMERGENCY.

We have been keeping SCIENCE journals for the past two weeks recording our observations on the chickens in the incubator. We have 13 days left to wait. Cross your fingers for some baby chicks. More on the chicks below.

*Add to our scrolls...some kids are up to 500. WOWie, WOW, WOW.

FRIDAY, we would like to INVITE all mommies to our school at 10:30 to meet in the LIBRARY. K,1,2 will be hosting a MOTHER's DAY tea. We hope to see you there and celebrate you. We understand if you can't make it....expect a special gift from your little one when they get home. If you are coming, please bring a teacup for you and your little peanut.
